Welcome to soc.religion.unitarian-univ

Soc.religion.unitarian-univ is the usenet group dedicated to Unitarian-Universalists. Since its inception in August 1994, topics of discussion have ranged from the inspirational to the silly to the practical and back again. (This is pretty typical of U-U discourse.)

The group (sruu to its friends) is robomoderated, a technique that passes all submissions through a validation program before sending them out to the world, to enforce as necessary the rules that the group runs under. A board of five volunteer moderators help maintain the group and encourage a level of respect and civility appropriate to a church-related group. There's more detail on the moderation policy in the FAQ.

How do I subscribe to sruu and post messages?

Run your favorite net news program such as Free Agent, Netscape Messenger, Outlook Express, trn, or tin, and tell it to display soc.religion.unitarian-univ. Usenet messages are carried on news servers throughout the world.

Before posting anything, please read the group for a little while so you understand the tone and topics of the group, and read the FAQ.

Once you've done that, to post a message, mail it to uu@iecc.com or use your news program's posting feature which should mail it for you. The first time you post a message, you should receive a confirmation message asking if it was you, to which you must respond. After that, messages are posted as received. The robomoderator always sends a short acknowledgement each time it receives and posts something.

If you don't get the confirmation message, most likely either your news program isn't mailing messages correctly, or the From: line in your message is set wrong and doesn't have your correct mail address. The easiest solution to both is usually to mail messages yourself rather than using the posting feature of your news program.

Other Unitarian Universalist resources on the Net

The Net is full of U-U resources.

The Unitarian Universalist Association offers a site with inforomation about the denomination, a church locator, and links to many other on-line resources.

The UUS-L mailing list is a on-line mailing list with a charter similar to s.r.u-u, but with a somewhat different flavor and participants.

Dozens of U-U churches have home-pages on the Web. Two home pages that happen to be located on the same computer as this page are First Parish (Lexington, Mass.) and First Unitarian Church of Ithaca, N.Y..
